We got a text early this morning . . . almost home! They are about to enter Maryland waters! They boys & I plugged in their coordinates so we could 'see' where they were.

Kennett Square, Pennsylvania puts on several small town parades during the year. However, the Memorial Day Parade is by far the best. It lasts over an hour & honors those that have served or are serving in the military. William rode in the parade this year with Steve & some other KAU baseball players. Benjamin and I watched from Broad Street with friends & family.
It has been one long season this year playing for KAU. The boys had one win so far & playoffs start in 2 weeks! Oy! Individually speaking, William had a few great games of pitching. He was also able to get a few hits in this season.
William had a special friend visit from his 2nd grade class tonight (her older brother was playing on the field after William). Their friendship is truly special. William asked to stay a bit after his game so he and his friend could play. After chasing one another & chatting for a bit, they decided to throw the baseball back and forth. William praised her throws & catches. He was kind & encouraging. We are very proud of the amazing young man he continues to become. Election day here in Pennsylvania means a day off of school! Lucky for us we got to spend it with 'The Kelly kids.' A look at what is to come this summer!
I have been on a personal weight loss journey {well my entire adult-hood life it seems}. My commitment changed on April 26, 2013. I was feeling sluggish, overweight, having digestive issues, and was overall unhappy with who I saw when I looked in the mirror. I have never been a thin person by nature; built more muscular & athletic. But over the years (and two little ones later), my body has changed and I don't like it. I needed a change & I needed to dedicate myself to this change.
I have been doing plenty of reading & the bottom line; sugar is some bad stuff! I decided this was the one avenue I haven't wholeheartedly tried (giving up sugar and processed foods). Although my Mom told me for years, "Carbs are bad," I didn't think I had the strength to follow through. I don't like failure & eliminating carbs and sugar felt like a sure proof way to fail. How could I possibly give that stuff up? Here is how the last 3 weeks has looked for me: ~Weighed myself for the first time on Friday, May 10, 2013. ~ Registered a loss of -5.5 pounds after weighing in today (5/17/2013). ~Food journal & include how I am feeling as well ~Began 4 different work-out challenges & complete them everyday (20-40 minutes/daily) ~Diet consists of lean protein, vegetables, fruit, and a minimal amount of dairy. Sugar comes from fruit & all natural coffee creamer, which I still need to figure out. ~Failing to plan is planning to fail! I spend hours in the kitchen & constantly search for new recipes. I even make salad dressing these days! But, it is working! After the first few days of giving up the sugar & processed foods, I went through the 'carb flu.' I felt awful! I had a headache for 3 straight days. I can only speculate that this is similar to a person going through nicotine or drug withdrawal, but on a more minute scale. However, I am happy to report I don't crave sugar or processed foods. This is a huge step for me & my health! I hope this inspires you~ xoxo Traci We completed an art project for the 'office' Mother's Day weekend. I was wanting something 'artsy' from the boys, but wasn't quite sure what. I am a bit simplistic in nature & I don't tend to keep all the hand print/foot print projects the kids create on display. I save them & take pictures of their special projects, but that is about the end of it. So, when I saw something similar to the Philadelphia LOVE sign, I knew I had found my art. We used canvas and painted their hands & feet to create the masterpieces. I also used the same paint color as the walls to give it a more uniform look. Simple style, remember. Some might call it boring or safe; I call it my style. Well, looking at the art made me recall all the work we put into creating this office space, which originally started out as a 3-season porch. You heard me right! Jalousie windows, paneling on the walls, and indoor/outdoor carpet. Take a look! There aren't many pictures of me as I was 7 months pregnant with a baby when this started (February 2007). In April, we found out it was a boy & we named him Benjamin! The goal was to complete the project before the baby. However, we pulled an 'all nighter' grouting the floor in May 2007. We were exhausted! The 3-season porch has become our office/library space. It is quite cozy on cold winter nights with the fireplace on. It is easy to forget how much time & energy we have put into our home to make it our own. We couldn't have completed this project without help from dad (as usual), my brother (who got hit in the head with a hammer), brother Jimmy (drywall), Uncle John and Uncle Steve.
Hope this inspires you ~ Traci |
